"What happens if the weather is bad"!!!!

May 29, 2015  •  Leave a Comment

This year I have been unlucky with some weddings....

I have had rain on more wedding so far this year, than the past couple of year put together.

Brides have started asking "What do you do if the weather is bad"!!!

I always have a back up plan in place, when it comes to the weather, after all we do live in BRITAIN. I always plan on getting to the Church or wedding venue at least an hour before the service starts, sometimes even checking out the reception before going to the church, just so I can have a plan "B" and even a plan "C" in place. We live in a country where it will RAIN A LOT !!! usually however it tends to be short sharp bursts, it very rarely rains all day long.... but it could. Most Venues including church's will allow photography inside ( providing there no wedding following yours). If its looks like it's going to blow over in a short while, I will suggest that we hang on for 5mins or so, if its only lightly raining I might suggest that we quickly go out side and get the main group photo out the way, leaving only the smaller groups to do inside, it all depends on how bad the weather is....

When taking a booking I always look at the venue that the couple have chosen, and quickly mention to the couple the possibility of rain, over the years I have got to know most reception venues, so can advise on what I will do / where I will take the photographs in the event of rain. Some times the photographs will even turn out better than if I was to take them outside. (Due to limited ground  space or Grave stones ect..) When arriving at your chosen venue for the wedding service, allow a little extra time if it raining, just so you have time to wipe down ect...

If a couple has booked my attendance for all day and evening, then they have the advantage of having me around all day, there's always the chance, that after the meal and speeches, the rain has stopped and we can quickly go outside with the main people from the wedding party ( Bride / Groom/ Parents / Bridesmaid / Bestman / Brothers / Sisters and quickly do some smalls groups and creative photography of the couple before the return of the rain, all this takes place while the reception is turning the room around ready for your evening function... Most venue's have a corner put aside when with the aid of a few chairs, I can start building up small group photographs.

When booking your reception, ask them is there an area that the photographer can use, in the event of bad weather, this will at least put your mind at rest if the worst was to happen... When coming to discuss your wedding plans, ASK ME what will you do in the event of bad weather...

Remember the day is yours... and you will enjoy the day, regardless of what the weather throw's at you.

If you approach the day with the right mind frame, then you are going to enjoy the day more!!!! providing you are prepared to adjust your plans, and adjust to the day's conditions....
